“Séchilienne Land movement : Multidisciplinary Studies from Hazard assessment to associated risk and consequences” (2010-2012)

Collective risks involve several scientific disciplines and several actors whose articulation is complex because of the diversity of approaches and how to manage uncertainties. The ambition and the novelty of this project were to provide a strategy adapted to this context with an interdisciplinary approach. In addition, the project also aimed at breaking down the barriers that block understanding of huge landslides, characterized by high complexity and heterogeneities in both space and time, and influence the risk management and political governance. This multidisciplinary approach is based on multi-parameter observation, in-situ and laboratory measurements and thermo-hydro- mechanical numerical modeling. This project required specific developments in terms of acquisition, monitoring, signal processing and / or numerical modeling, which has been an important challenge in the context of this iconic gravitational instability that has posed issues for 30 years for risk management. This project is characterized by a strong presence of social sciences studying the evolution of supply risk management and policy making.
